A key lesson emerging from previous phases was that one may educate and skill specially abled youth, but true empowerment and independence can occur only if they can obtain income-generating jobs. Despite the Government rule that 3% of all employees be reserved for specially abled persons, this does not fully respond to the needs of persons from marginalized communities with low levels of education. Universal Magic Centre, thus, constitutes the emerging second phase of Different Art Centre, and is the first of its kind in India, and perhaps the whole world.
The Universal Magic Centre is designed to enhance the employability of specially abled youth through tailored skill and capacity development training, as well as in areas such as profession etiquette and communication skills. The centre is expected to function as a training centre during the day and as an entertainment centre in the evening, which will be entirely managed by these specially abled youth. Youth who successfully pass their training program will be given a chance to take up paid internships in managing the Entertainment centre.
Universal Magic Centre will be a complete entertainment arena of differently abled artistes, including entertainment by the differently abled persons (music, dance, magic, puppet shows, and shadow play), cafes where families can dine, where differently abled youth will be the stars in every sense throughout 365 days. The youth will undertake the performance related activities, administrative functions and operations that too include managing the guest reaching the centre. The entire tasks and day to day activities of the centre will be their responsibility.
It is expected that 30 youth can be given this opportunity at one time at the Entertainment Centre. To give them wider opportunities to find suitable employment, a roster of qualified specially abled youth will also be prepared for potential employers who wish to employ the specially abled persons.
In short, Universal Magic Centre would be their ultimate world free from all external compulsions where they can experiment, create and devise their skills in the best possible manner. A roster of trained and skilled specially abled youth will be available for any employer wishing to be inclusive and giving them employment.
